It was a marvelous hike. This was the first time I saw the Birch Pond, maybe not at its brightest, which is in Autumn, but during a wondrous time. The flood was already over, but plenty of water was still left. The pond was full to the brink, so its small islands were barely showing above the surface. There was only a slightest movement of the air, just enough to make some ripples on the otherwise mirror-like water. The birch island in the middle of the pond is one of my favorite images.
